Task team to head Senzo murder investigation
Special task team established to find the robbers who shot and killed soccer star, Senzo Meyiwa.
A multi-disciplinary task team has been formed by police to investigate the murder of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain, Senzo Meyiwa.
At a media briefing on Monday in Parktown General Riah Phiyega said the investigators assigned to the task team are national and provincial detectives, crime intelligence, visible policing and the Gauteng province war room.
Meyiwa was shot and killed on Sunday evening in Johannesburg at his girlfriend’s Vosloorus house after two armed men entered the house. A third waited outside.
The three armed men fled the scene with only a cellphone. According to the SA Police Twitter feed, the cellphone did not belong to Meyiwa but was being charged at the premises.
Phiyega said two of the robbers are believed to be in their late 20s and 30s. One is tall and slender while the other is short and well-built.
The shooting is not believed to be linked to a hit on the soccer star’s.
