Police assault case at a standstill
Police have allegedly not done much on the case of a police officer who assaulted the son of a scrap-metal dealer in Proclamation hill.
Assault charges laid against a Pretoria Central police officer appear to be going nowhere, a Pretoria family said this week.
“Nothing has happened with the case since it was opened it on 29 October when my son was assaulted. Only last week, did a sergeant from the Pretoria West police station come to ask us to put the video footage of the assault on a CD,” Orkert Fouché Snr said.
He said the sergeant told him a warning would be given to the police officer who assaulted his son.
“This is a very pathetic the level of service,” Fouche said.
About three weeks ago, Orkert Fouché Jnr was assaulted at his father’s scrap-metal dealership in Proclamation Hill during a police operation.
Orkert Jnr’s sister Karina Oosthuizen said: “The police found golf clubs in the yard and told us we are not allowed to have them there. We told them we bought them two years back so they demanded that my brother fetches the person we bought the clubs from. When he was on his way to go fetch the person, the police officer started assaulting him.”
The next day, Orkert Jnr’s throat was swollen and he apparently had a neck spasm as a result of the assault.
“Orkert Jnr went to the doctor for a checkup because his throat was swollen and his neck was sore. We have taken the matter to our lawyer because the police are not doing much on the case and it has already been three weeks now,” explained Fouché.
Police have failed to give any response at the time of going to print.
