Nigerian stabbed in Pretoria North brawl

A Nigerian man was stabbed and wounded after a fight broke out at a shop in Pretoria North.

A Nigerian man was stabbed and wounded in a brawl at a shop in Gerrit Maritz Street in Pretoria North on Thursday.

Police spokesperson, Captain Rheineth Motlana, said the fight broke out late in the afternoon when three Nigerian men approached the shop.

“It is believed the shop owner, a Pakistani man, felt threatened by the men’s presence as there had recently been several robberies in the area,” Motlana said.

She could, however, at the time, not confirm what the men were doing at the shop and if they were potential robbers.

Motlana said the shop owner pressed the panic button and a commotion between the Nigerian men and Pakistani owner erupted.

“A crowd of people gathered at the scene and a Nigerian man was stabbed in the fight. It is at this stage not clear who stabbed him as there were many people involved,” she said.

The man was rushed to hospital and is in a stable condition.

No one was arrested and the case is still being investigated.
