A woman of Extension 5 in Mamelodi East demanded answers after the fatal shooting of her live-in partner Kenny Manyoro (37) last weekend, allegedly by a female police officer.
Sonto Hlatshwayo (28), mother of Manyoro’s four children, said he left the house on Saturday to buy cigarettes.
“Kenny came with the police a few minutes later to inform me that he had been arrested for possession of dagga.”
“The police, who were not wearing any uniforms then took him to a nearby house, where nyaope was allegedly being sold. Kenny was left in the vehicle with a female officer, while they went to search the house,” Hlatshwayo said.
Hlatshwayo said Manyoro managed to get out of the police car and made a run for it with the female police officer following.
“The female officer fired off four shots. The first one was a warning shot, the second one went through a window of a house nearby, but no one was hurt. The third one hit Kenny in the leg and the officer fired a fourth round that hit him in the heart,” Hlatshwayo said.
“Kenny ran away because he was on a five-year suspended sentence for dagga and afraid of going to jail. He was a dagga smoker but a very kind, loving man who worked piece jobs around the community to make sure that his children did not go to bed hungry.”
She believed the police were framing Manyoro and accused him of selling dagga.
Manyoro’s sister, Christina Manyoro (41) said it very painful to see her younger brother lying helpless after he was shot. “All we want as a family is for government to take responsibility because they have ruined our lives. All we want is justice.”
Comment from the police could not be obtained immediately.
