Neighbours track down burglar

According to Rietgat police station spokesman Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena, a home owner's house was burgled while he was at work on Tuesday.

A double bed and gardening tools were stolen during a home burglary in Soshanguve Block KK, police said on Wednesday. According to Rietgat police station spokesperson Warrant Office Lolo Mangena the homeowner, Sello Leballo, left for work as usual on Tuesday morning.

“Leballo alleges when he left for work all the doors and windows were locked,” said Mangena. “He said a neighbour saw a man who resides in the same street breaking into the house. The man left a short while later with a fan, gardening tools and a double bed that was loaded onto a van.”

Mangena said when Leballo returned from work, he found his house had been broken into. “Leballo was approached by his neighbour who told him what had transpired during the day, and the person who allegedly stole the goods.”

Neighbours then went with Leballo to the house of the man who was suspected of stealing the goods. “When they arrived they found a double bed belonging to Leballo as well as gardening tools and a fan.” Mangena praised residents for keeping an eye out for their neighbours’ property.

“This shows good neighbourhood spirit and the way crime must be fought. The suspect was arrested after the neighbours called the police,” Mangena said.

A 34-year-old man was scheduled to appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court once he had been formally charged.
