A 66-year-old woman sat tied up next to the body of her 76-year-old husband for ten days before she was discovered in the garage of a house in Bronkhorstspruit on Friday.
Louis du Toit, a pensioner, was severely beaten by robbers before he was strangled to death. Both Du Toit and his wife’s hands and feet were tied.
Police spokesperson, Constable Zanele Vilakazi, said when police found the woman at around 07:30, she was too traumatised to speak. She was dehydrated and had not eaten anything for ten days.
“Police were called to the scene in Rooth Street after officers of a security company discovered the couple in the garage,” Vilakazi said. “The woman’s nephew called the security company after he could not get hold of them for several days and had become worried.”
Vilakazi said the couple was attacked in their home by robbers ten days ago. The robbers searched the house and forced open the safe.
She could, at the time, not say what was stolen.
The elderly woman was taken to Mamelodi hospital, where she received counselling.
No one has been arrested yet and police are still investigating the murder.
