A security guard was killed after a cable thief assaulted him with a pickaxe on Tuesday night.
Akasia police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said the guard was patrolling the area in a camp in Winternest when he came across a man digging out power cables.
The thief used a pickaxe to attack the guard, who died shortly afterwards. He has not been identified yet.
Nkoadi said a murder docket had been opened and police were investigating.
