MMC for safety attacked

Police in the north western areas of Pretoria – Soshanguve, Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa – are actively searching for four men who attacked mayoral committee member Terrence Mashego early on Tuesday.

Police in the north western areas of Pretoria – Soshanguve, Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa – have stepped up their search for four men who attacked Tshwane community safety mayoral committee member (MMC) Terrence Mashego on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old Mashego was assaulted at his home in Mabopane Block E in the early hours of the morning in an apparent robbery attempt.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said Mashego was attacked with a crowbar after he investigated a noise outside his house.

“The four men armed with a crowbar pushed him back into his room from the passage. They said they wanted money before they hit him with the crowbar over his head until he became unconscious,” he said.

Nkoadi said the men left without taking anything and the MMC was admitted at Legae clinic near Akasia.

“He is in a critical but stable condition. At the moment it is not clear if the motive of the attack was politically motivated.”

Nkoadi said police had opened an attempted house robbery docket and were actively searching for the culprits.
