Drug lab worth millions busted

Tshwane Metro Police have arrested four people in Onderstepoort after uncovering a drug laboratory and drugs worth millions.

Three men and a woman were arrested on Friday morning when Tshwane metro police uncovered a drug laboratory and found drugs valued between R1 million and R3 million in Onderstepoort.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said they acted on a tip-off about drugs being manufactured on an Onderstepoort smallholding. “Upon our arrival, we found laboratory equipment, crystal meth, a compressor, two steamers, a bottle marked ‘benzene’, several containers and chemicals and rubber gloves.”

Mahamba said they also found various types of drugs which had been manufactured on the premises but could not determine the distribution destination. “That will form part of our investigation. The suspects are currently unwilling to cooperate but they are held at the Pretoria North police station and are expected to appear in court soon.”

He said one of the offenders is a Nigerian national.
