Police women in the thick of things

In support of the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children, the entire operation was conducted by women.

Female cops in Erasmia took to the streets on Thursday to help fight violence against women and children.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said they conducted stop-and-search operations in a bid to find drugs and to track down wanted sexual offenders.

“In support of the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children, we saw it fit for the entire operation to be conducted by women, because this is their month,” Moloto said.

“The operation was a joint venture with Tshwane metro police who issued the traffic fines. There were also officials from home affairs to check for illegal immigrants. Women were leading the entire operation. We will later release the figures of the arrests, traffic fines, and illegal immigrants who were nabbed during the operation,” Moloto said.

The random police action was planned as part of “Operation Basadi” throughout the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.
