The second round of a drive to clamp down on crime was concluded in Sinoville this week.

Sinoville police spokesperson Mirna von Benecke said the patrolling teams did not encounter any crimes, but came across many houses where precautions had not been taken to prevent robberies.

Security companies took part in the patrolling of streets, including ZGS, Brinant, ADT, Themiko, RES and Computer Alarms. The Community Police Forum (CPF) of Sector 4 as well as Democratic Alliance ward councillor, Arnold van Niekerk were also present.

The patrols form part of Operation Duty Calls, a provincial police initiative in a bid to curb crime in the run-up to the festive season. It kicked off two weeks ago.

Von Benecke said the focus area of Sinoville police this time was Doornpoort because it appeared to have become a target for house robberies.

She urged home owners to be alert.

Two robberies in Doornpoort last week were made possible because home owners did not take basic precautions.

“In the first robbery a bathroom window was left open and in the second a door was left unlocked. I cannot stress enough how important it is lock doors and windows.”
