Police clamp down on crime

Moot police have a ‘no-nonsense’ attitude when it comes to criminal activity in the Moot area.

Swift reaction by Moot and Tshwane metro police officers recently resulted in the arrest of three suspected house robbers.

Moot police spokesperson Lieutenant Linda Jerling said police received a tip-off last Wednesday about a Quantum minibus believed to be carrying stolen goods.

The vehicle was spotted on the corner of 29th Avenue and Nico Smith Street in Villieria. Police pulled it over and searched all the occupants.

“They found a firearm, three bullets, cellphones, clothing, bank cards, a plasma TV, a keyboard and house-break tools in their possession,” Jerling said.

Patrick Mahlase (26), Amos Phala (21) and Mpho Choeu (28) had appeared in court on Thursday on charges of burglary and theft and being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Jerling said: “We are grateful to each and every officer who played a part. We are proud of you.”
