Three of the five stolen huskies returned to owner

Three of the five stolen huskies were returned home after a woman dropped them off at the Waltloo SPCA branch on Friday morning.

The owner of the five huskies that were stolen from his property on Wednesday afternoon, is over the moon when he received a phone call from the Tshwane SPCA on Friday morning that three of them had been found.

“I was ecstatic when they informed me about my dogs. I immediately had all three micro-chipped and thankfully they are in a good condition,” Dick Coetzer, a Waverley resident, said on Saturday morning.

Coetzer received numerous phone calls since the theft of his dogs were publicised.

“I got word that someone else found the other two huskies. I am currently (Saturday morning) on my way to see if it is them,” an excited Coetzer said.

Korky Levanon, spokesperson for the Tshwane SPCA, said a woman brought the three huskies in on Friday morning at around 11:30. The dogs were in good health but the woman failed to fill in the forms properly.

“We are trying to obtain the personal information of the woman who brought the huskies in, so that we can find out where she found the dogs. Hopefully we will be able to contact her,” she said.

Levanon warned pet owners not to merely hand-over their animals to any stranger. She said Tshwane SPCA workers drive around in clearly marked SPCA vehicles. SPCA inspectors also wear uniforms and have the relevant documentation.

The two woman who confiscated the five huskies from Coetzer’s property were dressed in white shirts with false SPCA identification cards.

She said they had managed to discover that one of the huskies which the woman brought in, belonged to Coetzer because the dog was micro-chipped.

“It is very important that pet-owners micro-chip their animals in case of loss or theft,” she said.

Levanon warned the public to be alert for people posing as SPCA inspectors. Always ask the inspector for a signed letter of authorisation. The information on the letter should match the information on their identification cards.
