SA cricketer reportedly arrested

Former Proteas cricketer has reportedly been arrested in Cape Town for reckless driving following an accident.

Former Proteas cricket player, Herschelle Gibbs, has reportedly been arrested for drunken driving after an accident in Camps Bay on Sunday.

Police said investigations were continuing.

“A drunken driving case is under investigation. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested. He was later released and will appear in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on 25 November 2015 on the charges against him,” police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk said in an email response.

Van Wyk declined to identify the man who was arrested, but he has been named in several news reports as Gibbs.

In 2009, Gibbs was admitted to a rehabilitation centre for drug and alcohol abuse.

Gibbs had also been arrested in 2008 for drunken driving and reckless or negligent driving. The charges were later dropped.
