Five armed men are on the run after robbing a house in Nina Park on Friday morning.
According to Johan Maree, chairman of Nina Park community policing forum (CPF), the armed robbers fired three shots at a Chubb response vehicle as they fled the scene in a get-away Audi Q7.
He said the domestic worker pressed the panic button as the robbers ransacked the house and Chubb responded.
Maree said the Audi Q7 was waiting outside the house when Chubb arrived at the scene. “Initially the reaction officer suspected it might be the owner but at the same time the other men walked out of the house and started firing shots at him, which missed him by an inch.”
Maree said three shots were fired which shattered the windshield and penetrated the body of the car. The Chubb reaction officer escaped with only a few cuts to his face from the shattered windshield. The five men had already managed to flee the scene when CPF members arrived.
Dana Wannenburg, DA councillor, warned residents to stay vigilant as the festive season brings with it an increase in theft and robbery.
“Ensure that security safety measures are up to scratch and stay vigilant,” he warned.
Alison Bull, spokesperson for Chubb, confirmed the incident and said they were investigating.
Police spokesperson Captain Riana van Aarde confirmed the incident. She said the matter was still being investigated. According to preliminary investigations, the robbers got away with a TV and a cellphone.
