Cop bitten by taxi driver

An Erasmia police officer was allegedly bitten by a taxi driver who resisted arrest.

A taxi driver assaulted a police officer at the weekend after failing to produce his driver’s licence and public driving permit.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto, said the police officer and his colleagues were on a routine patrol when they stopped a white taxi on the R511 and M26 roads in Erasmia on Saturday morning.

After the driver failed to produce the required documents, the police tried to arrest him but he bit one of the officers.

“The suspect resisted arrest and started assaulting the police officers,” said Moloto.

He said the driver was eventually taken to the police station.

He was scheduled to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday on several charges.
