Ga-Rankuwa children celebrate Heritage Day with cultural performances

Youngsters at the Odi Self Help Association for the Disabled enjoyed cultural dances, food and community support during a special celebration of Ubuntu.

Children at the Odi Self Help Association for the Disabled in Garankuwa were treated to food, cultural performances and community support on Heritage Day, September 24.

The celebration, hosted by the Rebone Boitshoko Kgokane South Africa Foundation (RBKSAF), brought together children, staff, community supporters and volunteers for a day centred on Ubuntu and South Africa’s diverse heritage.

The children showcased their talents through cultural dances and singing, with organisers praising their performances and preparation.

Foundation members toured the association’s classrooms and viewed artwork created by the children before joining them for a braai.

Food and refreshments, including popcorn, cool drinks and ice pops, were shared throughout the day.

RBKSAF Chairperson and CEO Rebone Robert Kgokane said the celebration focused on spending meaningful time with the children and supporting vulnerable community members.

“We wanted to share a day filled with love, laughter and true Ubuntu with the children,” said Kgokane.

“Seeing them perform, share their talents and enjoy the day reminded us of the importance of community and caring for one another.”

Pastors opened and closed the programme with prayers.

Kgokane thanked the Odi Self Help Association for the Disabled and Drop a Blanket teams for their support, as well as members of the RBKSAF team who helped prepare for the event.

The foundation said it remains committed to supporting vulnerable people, including children with disabilities, orphans and elderly people in communities.
