A man was arrested with the help of Mamelodi residents after he and three others robbed a tuck-shop at the weekend, Silverton police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said on Monday.
He said two armed men entered the tuck-shop in Nellmapius through a backdoor on Saturday night and held the owner at gunpoint.
“They forced him into another room in the shop and robbed him of two cellphones. One of the suspects instructed the shop assistant to open the cash register and they took R2 000,” said Sepato.
Sepato said the robbers fled, only to return to the scene a few minutes later.
“They went back and demanded the shop owner’s car keys. Upon leaving, they fired two shots but no one was hurt,” he said.
Sepato said the robbers fled in a silver Audi A4, registration number CLX 327 MP.
He said one of the robbers was arrested in the area after residents helped police in the search.
“Three suspects are still at large. We would like to thank community members for their help,” he said.
