More than 100 dogs enjoy Wollies Colour Fun walk in Pretoria North
Four-legged friends and community volunteers enjoyed a 2.5km Colour Fun fundraiser in the open veld.
More than 100 dogs from Wollies Animal Shelter in the north of Pretoria took part in a 2.5km bush walk on Saturday.
The four-legged friends participated in the Wollies Colour Fun fundraising event, which ran from 08:00 to 10:00.
Yvonne Weststrate, a volunteer at Wollies Animal Shelter, said the colour run was all about their four-legged friends because they enjoy it so much.
“We really appreciate the people who volunteer for the walk, and we try to do the dog walks every two to three months,” said Weststrate.
She said the colour run forms part of exercising the dogs, as they do not want to keep them in an enclosure all day when they enjoy going out into the open field.
Community steps up for shelter dogs
One of the volunteers, Handre Bekker, said he enjoys participating in the walks and that the dogs enjoy walking in the veld.
Weststrate also mentioned that such fundraising projects provide a great boost to the shelter.
“Wollies is grateful for everyone’s support. The community does not hesitate to jump in and help where they can.”
Wollies Animal Shelter was started in 2003 by Stella Trexler with the purpose of sterilising animals, and has grown to provide housing for many other animals.
