Two men have been caught with illegal firearms in their possession on the N4 just outside Bronkhorstspruit.
Police spokesperson Johannes Japhta said the two were arrested on Tuesday afternoon. One of the firearms was an AK47.
“The suspects were arrested at 17h15 on Tuesday when police received a tip-off that the two men were using the N4 from Bronkhorstspruit to Pretoria. They tried to flee when they saw the police but they were stopped, we found two men in their early 30s in a Toyota bakkie,” said Japhta.
Japhta said the firearms were unlicensed.
“At this stage we don’t know where the suspects were heading before they got arrested. Investigations are continuing.”
The men would appear in court soon, Japhta said.
