Two men have been jailed for 25 years for killing a Winterveldt policewoman in 2013.
Mathala Paulos (26) and Johannes Seagi (27) were sentenced in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, said police spokesperson Constable Chabangu.
The police officer, Asnat Julia Malatji, was shot dead on 23 January 2013 in a tavern in Winterveldt after her girlfriend gave her gun to the killers.
Chabangu said the murder might have been planned.
“After getting hold of Malatji’s gun without her knowledge, the offenders invited her to drinks at a local tavern. The three sat until late and when they were about to leave Malatji was shot and killed,” said Chabangu.
Chabangu said the two men were arrested at their home in Winterveldt on 8 February 2013.
Malatji’s girlfriend was arrested but released. Investigations into her role are continuing.
