Two men were arrested in Rooihuiskraal on Friday, two days after a security vehicle was hijacked and a tobacco delivery vehicle robbed in Pretoria West.
Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said police were tipped off about the men’s getaway vehicle, and it was discovered at a house in Rooihuiskraal.
Huma said police searched the house. They found cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash, and arrested the men.
The two allegedly hijacked a security vehicle that was escorting a tobacco delivery vehicle in Pretoria West last Wednesday.
Huma said the on-duty driver of the delivery vehicle was driving in the area around 09:45 when he realised the security vehicle was no longer behind him. He grew concerned and phoned the driver of the security vehicle, who was taken along by the hijackers, but there was no answer.
Minutes later, the security vehicle with two unknown occupants reappeared behind him. The hijackers instructed the delivery vehicle driver to stop in Philip Nel Park, west of Pretoria.
The two drivers were ordered to load the cigarettes into a getaway vehicle, and the hijackers fled.
The arrested men would appear in court soon.
