Fighting crime together

Moreleta police together with security companies and the CPF took part in a simulation training session recently to help improve their efficiency in catching criminals.

The Garsfontein police station held a training simulation in conjunction with security companies and community policing forums in the Moreleta Park area on Thursday evening. The aim of the training session was to build good relationships between the police, security companies and the CPF.

Warrant officer Dave Miller, communication officer at the station, explained what the training involved: “It’s a simulation of a crime, for instance a house robbery. A description of the vehicle is given to the security companies and CPF, who are then tasked with locating the vehicle and coordinating with the police by blocking it from escaping. Police would then make the arrest. With this training, we hope to be more efficient when crimes really happen.”

He continued: “The Moreleta area has high police visibility and the CPF and security companies play a big role in fighting crime in the area, as they are our eyes and ears.”

He concluded by saying they planned to introduce the training session to other sectors too.
