A delivery truck was hijacked in Les Marais on Friday.
Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier, spokesperson for the Wonderboompoort police, said this happened in front of Ultra Liquors around 11:00.
The truck drivers were unloading goods when an armed man approached and forced them to lie face down on the ground.
“He and another man drove away in the delivery vehicle but abandoned it on the corner of Mance and Booysen streets opposite a crèche,” Olivier said.
The employees from the crèche alerted the police to the vehicle outside their premises.
The hijackers made off with an unspecified haul of cigarettes in an Audi TT and a white Volvo.
“According to eye witnesses, the two men were in an Audi and had weapons with them. It is unknown how many men were in the Volvo,” she said.
No one was injured.
