UPDATE: Stage 2 load shedding implemented

Consumers are urged to switch off any unnecessary electrical appliances as Eskom warns of a chance for load shedding if demand of electricity is not decreased.

Eskom said load shedding at stage 2 will be implemented on Saturday from 08:00 to 22:00 due to a shortage of generation capacity.

The power utility said load shedding could continue into Sunday.

Eskom said several generating units have failed due to unplanned outages.

It said power supply will be reviewed on Saturday evening to determine if load shedding should continue to Sunday.
