A Centurion woman had to protect her children on Friday morning when a man approached them with a weapon while she was walking them to school in Lyttelton Manor.
Natasha Nockels said she was walking her 5-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter to crèche at 07:00 on Pretorius Road when she heard a man running after her.
“My instinct told me to turn around and I saw a man with a silver pole in his hand. I took the knife I had in the pram and pointed it at him,” she said.
Nockels said the man did not say a word.
“He stopped, turned around and walked away.”
She said, however, that the man continued to follow her.
“As I turned the corner, I saw he was still behind me. I continued to walk faster and called my husband. After I got off the phone, he had stopped following me and turned back.”
Nockels said she suspected the man was trying to kidnap her children.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said people should be vigilant for suspicious strangers.
