Girl allegedly harassed on bus

Girl allegedly harassed on a bus by a bus driver who tells the girls to kiss and hug him.

According to the mother of a 17-year-old pupil from Hoërskool Tuine, the teenager had a bad experience on a bus this week.

Elize Viljoen said her daughter takes the bus home to Danville every afternoon and on Wednesday she was harassed by the bus driver.

“My daughter told me the bus driver is just too friendly with the girls and asks them to kiss and hug him. When my daughter boarded the bus on Monday the driver told her to kiss and hug him. On Wednesday when my daughter got on the bus the driver called her and made funny noises.”

Viljoen said the bus driver apparently works for the Tshwane metro bus services. “My daughter was very uncomfortable with what had happened and quickly forced open the bus door when they got to the bus stop. The driver ran after her, but luckily her boyfriend was waiting for her.” She said her daughter’s hand was hurt when she tried to force the door open and that the driver said he ran after her to apologise.

The mother said her daughter was in tears when she called her after the whole incident. “I called the school about the matter and I will also be taking it further because this driver is trying his luck with the girls and harassing them while the inspector is not on the bus,” said Viljoen.

The mother said she worked in Midrand and her daughter had to use the bus in the afternoon since there was no one to fetch her. Tshwane metro had not responded to an enquiry immediately.
