Another police clampdown on crime
Sinoville police and other local authorities searched 112 vehicles, issued R6 000 in traffic fines and arrested three people during a routine roadblock in Doornpoort.
Police and local authorities issued nearly R6 000 in traffic fines and arrested two illegal immigrants during a routine roadblock on Tuesday morning in Doornpoort.
Sinoville police in conjunction with Tshwane metro police, POP, members of the aviation policing and security learning programme (APSLP) and the K9-unit conducted the roadblock on Airport Road next to Wonderboom airport.
Sinoville police spokesperson Mirna von Benecke said a total of 112 vehicles were stopped of which a total of 32 number plates were checked for links to criminal activities.
“During the operation Sinoville police also arrested one person for housebreaking and possession of stolen property, and another for dealing in drugs,” she said.
The APSLP was rolled out in 2013 and 110 members in total had been trained. “The programme was developed specifically for border policing members working at international airports, domestic airports and smaller airfields. The programme consists of a three week class phase, which includes practical exercises, as well as a six week field training phase,” Von Benecke said.
She said the programme contained seven modules that deal with aviation introduction, border policing operations, risk assessment, stakeholder relationships, security operations and response to incidents and cargo.
Von Benecke said when performing practical exercises, different role players such as Wonderboom airport, metro police, Sinoville police and border policing units were included to execute roadblocks, stop and searches, searching of smaller aircraft, profiling of suspicious persons and cargo and response to aviation related incidents.
