Cable theft causes major power failure in Pretoria’s far east

Power expected to be restored by midnight

Major areas in the far east of Pretoria has been left without power after thieves stole cables at the Mooikloof substation early on Thursday morning, the Tshwane metro said.

The metro said in a statement that three main feeder cables were stolen and that technicians were hard at work trenching for repairs.

Areas that were affected included Woodhill, Garsfontein, Pretorius Park, Mooikloof, Olympus and Zwavelpoort.

“It is estimated that power will be restored by midnight and we ask all our consumers to be patient while the team is busy with repairs,” the statement said.

All affected customers should report by SMS’ing their account/meter number to 082 612 0333 or 44676.

Electrical network points should be treated as live.
