An elderly man of Haakdoornboom was assaulted with an iron pipe in the early hours of Thursday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlane said the 60-year-old victim went to investigate when he heard his dogs barking outside. He was overpowered by an unknown number of men and assaulted with the pipe. She said the attackers fled the scene with his 9mm handgun and R5 000 in cash.
The man was taken to the Tshwane District Hospital for treatment. No arrests had been made.
In another crime, pigs were stolen and slaughtered on a smallholding in Haakdoornboom.
The animals were reportedly slaughtered in a pigpen in the early hours of Thursday.
One of the pigs was apparently dragged outside before its stomach was cut open and its feet cut off.
Phatlane said the case docket had been sent to the stock theft unit for further investigation.
