A woman (23) was arrested on Tuesday after giving birth and burying the body of her dead baby in her backyard in Soshanguve Block Y.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena, said the woman’s mother notified the police after her daughter told her she had dumped the baby in a nearby veld.
“When her mother notified the police, investigations were conducted and it was found she had buried her newborn daughter in the backyard.”
Mangena said the infant was born alive.
The woman was taken to an unnamed hospital after she started bleeding profusely.
“The hospital cannot be named because some residents have threatened to kill her.”
Mangena said a docket of concealment has been opened and she would appear in court as soon as she has been discharged from hospital.
