Four armed robbers met their match in Erasmuskloof in the east of Pretoria when the Hawks cornered them on Thursday night.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, spokesperson for the Hawks, said the men recently stole a vehicle that had a tracker unit installed.
“We kept tabs on the tracker and when the men moved the vehicle on Thursday night we put surveillance on it.”
The four armed men proceeded to a house in Erasmuskloof and hijacked a motorist. The police and Hawks rushed to the aid of the hijack victim, but the armed robbers fled the scene in both the stolen and hijacked vehicles.
The Hawks pursued them and a shootout ensued. The Hawks succeeded in boxing in the robbers.
“One of the armed men was shot and wounded, two were arrested and another one fled on foot. He did not get far before we also apprehended him,” Mulaudzi said.
He said the police seized two firearms, the hijacked vehicle and the stolen one.
The armed men will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
