A police officer and three others have been arrested after a house robbery in Mamelodi East. A fifth man escaped, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe said on Monday.
He said five armed men entered a home in Khalambazo last Thursday, assaulting a woman and robbing her of cash and cellphones.
“Five armed suspects stormed into a house and started hitting and threatening the complainant. They took an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones at gun point.”
Mbewe said one of the robbers had a police appointment card in his hand, linking him to the Hammanskraal police station.
Police cornered five men after receiving a tip-off, but one of them managed to flee the scene.
“A police service pistol (Z88), handcuffs, police appointment certificate, three cellphones and a torch were seized. Police are searching for the fifth suspect,” said Mbewe.
Police were investigating. Mbewe said anyone with useful information on the matter could call the Mamelodi East police station on 012-815-7079 or the Crime Stop line on 08600-10111.
