Serial rapist linked with 133 charges
A Soshanguve man accused of being a serial rapist is facing charges of 133 rapes with his trial to start on Wednesday 4 March in the Pretoria High Court.
A man arrested on a rape charge in Soshanguve late last year, has been linked to a total of 133 cases of rape around Soshanguve and Mabopane.
Police spokesperson Lolo Mangena said the suspect had been on the police wanted list for the past seven years. “He was profiled and linked to over 133 rape cases reported in Soshanguve, Rietgat, Mabopane and Booysens. These crimes were committed between 2008 and 2014,” he said.
The suspect was arrested in October last year by Rietgat police who had been following him. “He had targeted women mainly around Block FF and GG and raped them in their homes. His trial is set to start on Wednesday, 4 March,” said Mangena.
Commenting on other cases, Mangena said police had been reviewing several dockets of wanted persons. “The dockets reviewed are of suspects yet to be arrested, and of suspects arrested and charged but whose dockets are not yet ready for trial,” he said.
The reviewed dockets related to murder, attempted murder, rape, hijacking, robberies and house robberies.
“Since last month we have had phenomenal success, arresting over 150 people, including suspects for robbery and house breaking. We also arrested four people suspected of a double murder in Hercules and Pretoria during the crackdown,” said Mangena.
