Woman found dead in car
The body of a 52-year-old woman was discovered in an abandoned vehicle in Silverton.
The body of a 52-year-old woman was recently discovered on the backseat of an abandoned vehicle in Silverton.
Kobus Koekemoer, a member of the Silverton Community Policing Forum (CPF), said he was patrolling the streets in the early hours of Thursday when he noticed a black Peugeot station wagon parked near the Silverton post office.
Koekemoer said he investigated and found the woman’s lifeless body on the backseat.
“At first I thought she was sleeping, but when I shook her shoulder in an attempt to wake her, her body was cold,” he said.
Koekemoer said a set of keys was lying on her stomach and she was not wearing any shoes. A walking stick was also found next to her body.
Police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said the CPF alerted the police around 03:00. Paramedics declared the woman dead at the scene.
“The woman’s next of kin was contacted and it appeared that she had been homeless. The vehicle she was found in was apparently not hers.”
Sepato said a friend of the woman told police she was last seen the day before.
The cause of death was not immediately clear and the Silverton police station was awaiting the autopsy results, he said.
