Reporting potholes now a breeze

Potholes in and around Pretoria can now easily be logged online.

Potholes could now have a shorter life thanks to Ogaats.co.za — a new user-friendly website to report potholes and other municipal problems in and around Pretoria within 30 seconds.

“It is ridiculously easy,” says Pierre du Toit, founder of Ogaats.

All you need is a camera phone or computer and the internet. There is no need to download a mobile application or even register.

Du Toit, owner of an IT company in the Western Cape, explains that the website was inspired by people having to struggle and wait long periods to report potholes and other municipal problems directly to the municipality.

“With Ogaats, users can quickly and anonymously report any pothole or other road or stormwater-related faults,” he says.

“Logged complaints are then routed directly to the correct department, making municipalities aware of the problems in their areas and allowing you to carry on with your life.”

Ogaats uses location-based data and a picture taken with your camera phone to directly notify the correct department responsible for the fault in that particular area.

“It takes away any guesswork that may exist and makes the process totally transparent to the public,” says Du Toit.

Ogaats has been running for the past three months and Du Toit urges people to make use of the site and “let the results speak for itself”.
