Two armed men have been arrested in Temba, Hammanskraal, after a business was robbed of items worth about R4 500, police said on Thursday.
Spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the men, aged 24 and 26, were captured around 15:00 on Wednesday in connection with a robbery at Mabote Business Enterprise.
The business in Temba was robbed about an hour earlier.
The owner told police two armed men forced him and his brother at gunpoint to lay on the floor.
The robbers kicked the two, demanding money from them. They took R1 500 in cash, cigarettes worth R1 000 and airtime of R2 000 before fleeing in a white Mercedes Benz, Moremi said.
“The owner managed to take down the vehicle’s registration number and alerted the police. Police traced the vehicle and a chase ensued.”
Moremi said the robbers came to a halt when their vehicle somehow caught fire.
“They stopped and tried to run away but police managed to catch them. The community assisted in putting out the fire. Police recovered cash, cigarettes and airtime in the vehicle.”
Moremi said the firearm was not found.
“The suspects are to appear at the Moretele Magistrate Court on Friday.”
