Cop on rhino charge gets bail
A police officer and two other men were granted R15 000 bail each after they were arrested over rhino horns.
A police officer and two accomplices accused of illegally being in possession of rhino horns have been granted bail of R15 000 each by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
Police spokesperson Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale said on Monday three horns worth about R500 000 were allegedly found on the back seat of their car at Irene Village Mall last Tuesday.
He said Captain Mandla Khomalo (42), an officer from the West Rand Crime Intelligence Unit, was on duty at the time of his arrest.
“His two accomplices, Ntsikagomzi Saliwa (30) and Ethelbert Radebe (42), were immediately arrested at the mall. Three rhino horns said to have been in their possession were subsequently seized.”
Makgale said the men were granted bail on Thursday and the matter was postponed to 23 April.
