Elardus Park residents have barely recovered from a month of burst water pipes in January, when another pipe ruptured this week.
“We are yet again experiencing fountains running down the street,” a frustrated resident, Hans Erasmus, said. “Litres and litres of water are being wasted.”
According to Erasmus water has been pouring out of the ground since Monday in both Frelon and Britstone streets. This follows earlier reports by Rekord that several water pipes have been bursting one after the other in the Elardus Park area since January.
Another resident, Jan Swanepoel, is also frustrated. He said the pipes had probably been installed in the early 1970’s, which explained why they were bursting one after the other. “My driveway was so badly dug up that I could not drive onto my property,” Swanepoel said in January.
According to Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the problem was being investigated. “The matter has been brought to the attention of the water and sanitation division in region 6. Be assured that plumbers will fix the pipe,” Mashigo said.
