Another video of remote jamming has gone viral.
The latest footage, recorded by closed circuit television cameras on 25 January at Wierda Square in Wierda Park, clearly reveals the modus operandi of criminals who jam car remotes.
In the video, a man, who would become the eventual victim, is driving in the parking lot of the mall on the corner of Willem Botha Street and Ruimte Road in a white Nissan X-Trail. He finds an opening, parks his car, and enters a store.
A second car, an orange Volkswagen Polo can, which was following the Nissan, parked next to it.
A man exits the Polo, stretches, and hangs about the parking lot, checking to see where the victim is. Before long, he casually walks over to the Nissan, open the rear, driver’s side door, climbs in, and emerges with a laptop bag, with the laptop inside.
He quickly gets back into the Polo, before setting off with his cohorts.
This was not the first time the same man had committed a crime at this centre, said Hannes du Buisson of the Centurion Concerned Citizens (CCC) organisation, which posted the video.
“Patrollers recently spotted him harassing a client at an ATM, looking over his shoulder as he entered his PIN. The patroller approached the man, but he quickly set off. The patroller went after him into an alleyway,” said Du Buisson.
“As the patroller came around the corner, the man stabbed him twice in his hands before running away. We intend launching an extensive search for this man and his companions.”
