The department of home affairs has introduced new office hours to improve service delivery to the public.
From Monday, 23 March, office hours of home affairs will be from 07:30 to 16:30, including a 30-minute break, Home Affairs Director-General Mkuseli Apleni said in a statement.
The statement noted that service hours for the public would be from 08:00 to 16:00.
“The decision on new opening and closing hours followed an extensive consultative process with organised labour as well as benchmarking with the relevant internal and external stakeholders,” Apleni said.
He said two shifts will be required when implementing the new hours. The first shift will start at 07:30 and end at 16:00, while the second shift will be from 09:00 to 16:30. “Both shifts will include a 30-minute lunch break.”
Apleni said the new hours will benefit clients, managers, staff and the department as a whole. “With the new hours, staff members will continue to work 40-hours per week, from Monday to Saturday, working two Saturdays per month. Importantly, the new hours will afford managers and staff sufficient time to interact with each other on service delivery matters and front office operations.”
He said the Saturday shift will be from 08:00 to 13:00 for staff members, and 08:30 to 12:30 for the public service delivery.
Apleni said the changes are part of the department’s broader drive to improve quality of service to clients.
