A 53-year-old man was shot and killed at his home in Woodhill Golf Estate in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to Major Mack Mngomezulu, the couple were jolted awake when they heard a commotion in the house.
Upon investigation, they found two armed men on the property. The armed robbers spotted them and pointed a firearm in their direction. The men overpowered the couple before tying them up.
“The homeowner managed to untie himself and pursued the armed robbers. A fight broke out and during the struggle a shot was discharged from the firearm, striking him in the upper body,” Mngomezulu said.
Chris Botha, spokesperson for Netcare 911, said they rushed to the scene at 01:30, but when paramedics arrived, the man had already succumbed to his injuries.
Mngomezulu said the armed men fled the scene with only a cellphone. A case of house robbery and murder is being investigated.
