Week-long water leak in Alphen Park

A water leak at a commercial property in Alphen Park is a source of serious concern.

Water has been pouring out of a water meter at a commercial property in Alphen Park the past week, causing frustration and concern.

Ivan Schutzler, building manager at the property, said he reported the water leak to the Tshwane metro last Monday, but had received no feedback.

“We were told there was a three day turn-around time. For all we know, the leak could have sprung last weekend already, and no one seems to care,” Schutzler said.

“We have lost by now, I am sure, thousands of litres of water and despite the fact that I have called a number of times every day since Monday morning, there is just no positive feedback.”

He said the property had 15 tenants and about 50 people were working on the premises.

Though the water supply to the property appeared to be unaffected, the leak was causing damage to the building and garden.

“I had our own plumber out here and we were advised that it’s a leak on the main galvanised pipe of the council and our guys were not allowed to work on it.”

Comment from the metro could not yet be obtained.
