A police officer was shot dead while on duty in Erasmia, Centurion, on Friday.
Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said two police officers were on patrol in Erasmia earlier in the day when a Audi A4 drew their attention.
They tried to stop the Audi, but it sped away and the police officers gave chase.
During the chase, the suspects in the Audi started shooting at the police.
“One of the officers was hit three times in his upper body. He later died from his injuries,” said Makhubela.
The officer’s name was still to be revealed.
“We are calling on anyone with any information on the suspects to step forward so that we can catch these thugs,” said Makhubela.
“Anyone who saw the episode, or saw the blue Audi’s registration plate number must please phone Crime Stop on 08600-1001 or SMS CrimeLine on 32211.”
