Two men were hit by one bullet after a robber fired a shot during a hijacking in Nellmapius on Tuesday morning, police said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said two men were hijacked after two suspects held them at gunpoint and ordered them to get out of their vehicle in Nellmapius. “The two men were driving to Nellmapius to collect furniture and stopped their van to check the address of the house they were going to when suddenly two armed men appeared and ordered them to get out of the van.”
“The passenger thought one of the suspect’s gun was fake so he pulled down his hand and the gun fired. The bullet ricocheted off the driver’s hip before hitting the other suspect’s stomach. The wounded suspect then ran into the bushes while his friend managed to steal the van and fled the scene, leaving the two victims on the road,” he said.
Sepato said the van was later found abandoned in Nellmapius. The other suspect managed to get himself to hospital but police alerted all nearby hospitals and he was eventually found at one of those hospitals. He is currently under police guard and he will appear in court once he is discharged.
Police urge delivery people to be cautious at all times when they are collecting or delivering items.
A case of hijacking and attempted murder has been opened.
