A man has been jailed for 10 years for burglary and car theft by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, police said on Tuesday.
Villieria police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits, said the 33-year-old man was also declared unfit to possess a firearms.
“The housebreaker met his match with Constable Mokwena Mojapelo, who traced the suspect after his fingerprints were linked with prints lifted from the scene of crime.”
Brits urged the community to take care when they came across any crime scenes as an undisturbed crime scene was vital for the collection of evidence that can lead to an arrest and conviction.
“When a crime occurs, the public must ensure that the scene is not disturbed before the necessary experts have been called out. Trampling and moving objects before the police investigation is finished, could jeopardize any case,” Brits said.
The man was convicted last week.
