Katlego Mnisi (4) was dropped off at his home in Gomorrah informal settlement by his alleged kidnapper on Sunday afternoon after disappearing 10 days earlier.
According to Hercules police Sergeant Christo Von Mollendorf the boy was dropped off at home by his alleged kidnapper who fled afterwards. “The little boy was taken for a checkup and is now at home. We are still looking for the man who he was last seen with and believed to have dropped him off at home on Sunday afternoon.”
A case of kidnapping was opened at Hercules Police station after Mnisi apparently left home with his stepfather’s friend who never returned him until Sunday. Mnisi lives at Gomorrah informal settlement with his mother and stepfather and two weeks ago on Wednesday he left with his stepfather’s friend Penny-Penny.
“Katlego was apparently last seen with Penny-Penny at Shoprite in the Bougainville Centre. He left with this man to go to Belle Ombre train station,” Hercules police Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said.
Msimango said it was unclear what Penny-Penny and the four-year-old were going to do at the train station, but then the two disappeared.
Msimango mentioned that Penny-Penny is a vagrant and sleeps in the bushes and underneath bridges in the surrounding areas of Hercules.
“It is hard to track Penny-Penny down because he does not have a cellphone. The stepfather of the child is the one who laid the complaint with police,” said Msimango.
Police said they were glad Mnisi was home but they were still investigating the case and hope to find the alleged kidnapper, Penny-Penny.
