Police hunting for 64-year-old criminal

Police are appealing to the community to assist in finding a 64-year-old man who could assist with information about a woman who was found dead in Monument Park in 2000.

The Brooklyn police are searching for George Letlhokwa Madia (64) whom they believe could assist with investigations after a woman was found dead in Monument Park, spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said.

The body was found in an abandoned house at a quarry in Skilpad Street in 2000.

Weilbach said Madia was believed to have been in a relationship with the 46-year-old woman. Police had been searching for Madia since 2003.

“He was arrested in connection with the discovery of the body and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. Madia was granted bail and the matter was postponed.”

Madia skipped bail and the court issued a warrant for his arrest. He had been at large for the past five years, Weilbach said.

“Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer at Brooklyn, Constable Siphiwe Tshabalala on 012-366-1764 or 072-732-3544 or the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111.”
