The Motsepe foundation bursary scheme that was established earlier in 2013 at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Pretoria campus had spent R200-million to help students from disadvantaged background.
The director of sports and recreation at TUT Shadrack Nthangeni invited the Mamelodi Sundows soccer team to empower the students.
“The reason behind this event was to strengthen the relationship with Mamelodi Sundows and also rebuild the reputation of our institution since many people associate our institution with protests, so we want to show people that we are capable of doing good things too,” said Shadrack Nthangeni.
“We are happy to have been invited by TUT to motivate students and we could not disappoint them. We were supposed to be training to prepare for our upcoming match, but instead we took the initiative of coming to TUT to inspire and motivate students, said Mamelodi Sundows coach, Pitso Mosimane.
Central Student Representative Council (CSRC) President Tshulufelo Modise said, “This year we want to work hard and keep our students busy with events to avoid protests. We hope that Mamelodi Sundowns visit would motivate students to focus their energy on positive activities.
The Motsepe foundation had in previous years awarded some TUT students with bursaries and the purpose of the event was to inform more students about the Motsepe foundation bursary scheme.
