No new leads in cellular shop robbery
Another cellular shop in a well-known shopping mall had been targeted by five armed men on Wednesday morning.
The Akasia police are still searching for five armed men who robbed a cellular store in Wonderpark shopping centre last Wednesday.
Spokesperson Captain Riana van Aarde said the police had made no arrests but were following up on information.
The five armed men robbed Auto Page Cellular of an undisclosed amount of cellphones Wednesday morning.
Elzette Schuster, spokesperson for Wonderpark shopping centre, confirmed the robbery.
She said five armed men walked into Auto Page Cellular at 11:00 and ransacked the store.
“Staff members were ushered to the back of the shop and the men forced open the safe. The robbers left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cellphones,” she said.
Schuster said no shots were fired.
Rekord recently reported about a major police bust following a spate of mall robberies across Gauteng and other parts of the country.
No fewer than 32 people linked to 34 mall robberies across South Africa have been arrested in an on-going investigation.
National police spokesperson Lt Gen Solomon Makgale said a multi-agency task team had been set up to smash the syndicate behind the mall robberies.
This investigation was continuing, he said.
